Aspermia
Condition in which no spermatozoa are present, nor any semen formed or ejaculated. (a- without, sperm/o: sperm, -ia: condition)
Azoospermia
Condition of no living sperm in the semen. This may be a desired condition, as when it follows a vasectomy. (a-: without, zo/o: animal, sperm/o: sperm, -ia: condition)
Balanitis
Inflammation of the glans penis (balan/o: glans penis, -itis: inflammation)
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
Abnormal enlargement of the prostate gland surrounding the urethra, leading to difficulty with urination. Also known as benign prostatic hypertrophy. (prostat/o: prostate, -ic: pertaining to, hyper-: excessive, -plasia: formation)
Epididymitis
Inflammation of the epididymis, usually as a result of an ascending infection through the genitourinary tract. (epididym/o: epididymis, -itis: inflammation)
Erectile dysfunction (ED)
Inability to achieve or sustain a penile erection for sexual intercourse. Also known as impotence.
Gynecomastia
Enlargement of either unilateral or bilateral breast tissue in the male. The gynec/o is a reference to the appearance of the breast, not to a female. (gynec/o: female, mast/o: breast, -ia: condition)
Hydrocele
Accumulation of fluid in the tunica vaginalis testis. (hydr/o: water, fluid, -cele: herniation, protrusion)
Oligospermia
Condition of temporary or permanent deficiency of sperm in the seminal fluid; related to azoospermia. (olig/o: scanty, sperm/o: sperm, -ia: condition)
Orchitis
Inflammation of one or both of the testicles; may or may not be associated with the mumps virus. Also known as testitis. (orch/o: testis, -itis: inflammation)
Priapism
An abnormally prolonged erection.
Prostatitis
Inflammation of the prostate gland. (prostat/o: prostate, -itis: inflammation)
Testicular torsion
Twisting of a testicle on its spermatic cord, usually caused by trauma. May lead to ischemia of the testicle. (testicul/o: testicle, -ar: pertaining to)
Varicocele
Abnormal dilation of the veins of the spermatic cord; can lead to infertility. (varic/o: varices, -cele: herniation, protrusion)
Vesticulitis
inflammation of a seminal vesicel, usually associated with prostasis. (vesicul/o: seminal vesicel, -itis: inflammation)
