3-D Shape
A shape that stands out and has three dimensions: length, width, and height.
Face
The flat or curved surface of a shape.
Edge
The line where two faces meet.
Vertex / Vertices
The sharp corner or point where edges meet.
Prism
A 3-D object with 2 identical, parallel faces (bases) connected by rectangular flat faces.
Pyramid
A 3-D object with a polygon base where all other faces are triangles that go up and meet at a single point.
Cube
A type of prism with 6 identical square faces, 12 straight edges, 8 vertices, and only right angles.
Rectangular Prism
A type of prism with 12 straight edges, 8 vertices, and right angles, having rectangular faces (usually 4 rectangles and 2 squares, or 6 rectangles where opposite faces are identical).
Sphere
A 3-D object with 1 curved surface and no vertices.
Cylinder
A 3-D object with 2 flat circular faces and 1 curved surface.
Cone
A 3-D object with 1 flat circular face and 1 curved surface that meets at a point.
Data Cycle
The process of answering a question by collecting, organising, representing, and analysing data (information).
Tally Marks
A quick way to keep count grouped in fives (e.g., 卌) to make them easy to count.
Pictograph
A visual representation of data that uses pictures and always includes a key (e.g., 1 picture = 5 cars).
Bar Graph
A visual representation that uses rectangular bars of different heights to show data.
Pie Chart
A circular chart divided into slices where the bigger the slice, the larger the amount of data.
Mode
The item or score that appears the most often in a data set.
Probability
The chance of an event happening.
Ruler
An instrument for measuring small things in mm and cm.
Tape measure / Metre stick
Instruments for measuring medium things in cm and m (e.g., a desk or a room).
Trundle wheel
An instrument for measuring long distances in m or km (e.g., a sports field).

Perimeter
The total distance or path around the outside of a 2-D shape, calculated by adding the lengths of all outside edges together.
Area
The amount of flat space a 2-D shape covers, measured in square units such as cm2.
Volume/Capacity
The amount of space inside a 3-D object, measured by packing it with smaller blocks to understand cubic units.
Cube: 8 vertices, 12 edges, 6 faces.
Rectangular Prism: 8 vertices, 12 edges, 6 faces.
Sphere: 0 vertices, 0 edges, 1 face.
Cylinder: 0 vertices, 0 edges, 3 faces.
Cone: 1 vertex, 1 edge, 2 faces.
Prism: 6 vertices (for a triangular prism), 9 edges (for a triangular prism), 5 faces (for a triangular prism).

Pyramid: 5 vertices (for a square pyramid), 8 edges (for a square pyramid), 5 faces (for a square pyramid).
