AWOL (Absent Without Permission, Without Pay)
The status of an employee who does not report an absence within 1 hour after the usual time of beginning work or leaves without permission after the shift starts.
Excessive absenteeism
Occurs when an employee has 10 incidents or 10 days of absence in a 12 month period.
Incident
An unauthorized absence on one or more consecutive days due to a non-work related illness.
Fitness for Duty Examination
A medical evaluation the Human Resources Director may require for employees absent for more than 10 working days or to determine if an employee can perform essential job functions.
Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 reporting requirement
The requirement for employees to report any criminal conviction for drug-related activity in the workplace within 5 days of the conviction.
Safety-Sensitive Functions
Tasks involving the operation, inspection, repair, or maintenance of service vehicles that require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Medical Review Officer (MRO)
A licensed physician who receives laboratory results of the drug and alcohol testing program to interpret and evaluate positive tests.
Alcohol Concentration Thresholds
The policy prohibits performing duties with an alcohol concentration of 0.02 or greater; a result of 0.04 or greater requires immediate removal from job duties.
Workplace Critical Incident Coordinator
The Executive Assistant to the City Manager/Labor Relations, who coordinates resources like the Employee Assistance Program after a serious workplace incident.
Sexual Harassment
A violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 consisting of unwelcome sexual advances, requests for favors, or conduct that creates an intimidating or hostile environment.
Affirmative Action Officer (AAO)
The individual responsible for reviewing and investigating discrimination and sexual harassment complaints to determine if \"reasonable cause\" exists.
Qualified Individual with a Disability
A person who, with or without reasonable accommodation, can perform the essential functions of a job without posing a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
Johns Eastern Company
The City's Workers' Compensation Administrator responsible for the Managed Care Arrangement for work-related injuries.
Workers' Compensation Informal Grievance resolution period
Informal grievances regarding medical care must be resolved within 7 business days.
FMLA Eligibility
Employees qualify if they have worked for the City for at least 12 months and at least 1,250 hours in the previous 12 month period.
Caregiver Leave
An FMLA category providing up to 26 weeks of leave to care for a family member or next of kin in the Armed Forces with a serious injury or illness.
Continuing Treatment
A period of incapacity of more than 3 consecutive calendar days involving treatment by a health care provider twice within 30 days.
Unum
The company contracted as the City's Family and Medical Leave (FML) Administrator.
Florida Clean Indoor Air Act
Florida Statute 386.201−211, which mandates smoke-free environments in City buildings and vehicles.
CDL License Suspension Notification
The requirement for drivers to notify their supervisor and Risk Management in writing the next business day following a license suspension or revocation.
DUI Disqualification Period
An employee found guilty of a DUI is ineligible for jobs requiring driving for 1 year for the first offense and 5 years for a second conviction.
Vehicle Accident Reporting Timeline
All accidents must be reported immediately to the Police, and a city form must be submitted to Risk Management within 48 hours.
