What is the mission of ASAP?

The ASAP's mission is to strengthen the overall fitness and effectiveness of the Army's total workforce and enhance combat readiness.

What are the objectives of ASAP?

1. Increase individual fitness and unit readiness.

2. Provide services which emphasize alcohol and other drug abuse deterrence, prevention, education and treatment.

3. Restore to duty substance-impaired soldiers who have potential for continued military service.

4.Ensure all ASAP personnel are properly trained.

5. Achieve maximum productivity, reduce absenteeism and attrition among DA civilians.

6. Quality customer service.

What is meant by the deglamorization of alcohol?

Personnel will not promote any function glamorizing the use of alcohol through drinking contest, games, initiations or awarding alcoholic beverages as prizes.

Is ASAP participation mandatory for individuals that are command referred?

Yes, failure to attend a mandatory counseling session may constitute a violation of Article 86 UCMJ.

What will happen to soldiers who fail to participate in or fail to respond successfully to rehabilitation?

Processed for administrative separation unless their are extraordinary circumstances.

What are ways that soldiers can be identified as having a substance abuse problem?

1. Voluntary

2. Commander Identification

3. Biochemical Identification

4. Medical Identification

5. Investigation or Apprehension

What are the rehabilitation objectives?

1. Return Soldiers to full duty as soon as possible

2. ID soldiers who can not be rehab within the scope of this regulation and advise their unit commanders.

3.Assist and refer soldiers who cannot be rehabilitated in the ASAP to treatment in the area where they live after being discharged.

4.Help resolve alcohol and other drug abuse problems in he family, with the ultimate goal of enabling the soldier to preform more effectively.

Wha are the objectives of the biochemical testing?

Urinalysis is used to deter, facilitate early identification, enable commanders to assess the security, military fitness, good order and discipline and refer to ASAP.

Commanders my direct drug testing under what conditions?

Unit inspections, search and seizures, competence for duty, rehabilitation, safety inspection, consent, new entrant, medical.

Yes, IAW AR 600-8-2
