Motherboard
logic board (Apple)
The hub in a circuit board with slots for the components required to make up a computer.
(CPU) Central Processing Unit
Capacity measured by clock speed. Unit of measurement called gigahertz. Typically found on integrated circuit microprocessors that contain 1 or more CPUs aka Multi-core processors. Microprocessors attach to motherboard and function as reasoning center.
control unit and arithmetic or logic unit.
Fetch, decode, execute.
RAM (random access memory)
Larger the RAM the quicker and more powerful a computer is. Typically the minimum RAM of a small desktop is 8GB and increases in increments of eight. 16GB achieves most standard operations.
Hardware Connection
Microprocessors attach to motherboard and function as reasoning center. Motherboard will have slots where RAM fits in. Hard drives are attached to the motherboard with (SATA) serial advanced technology attachment cables.
Hard Drives
(HDD) hard disk drive and (SSD) solid state drives are most common. Allow permanent storing of information. Flash drive is SSD and a quicker lookup speeds. HDD considered older technology.
Power Source
500 - 1000W to run computer.
