Personality
An idea and a way of thinking about certain aspects of human behavior and experience, specifically consistency, coherence, and individual differences.
Consistency
An aspect of human behavior and experience that manifests over time, over situations, and over behaviors.
Theory
A set of interrelated concepts, used or created by a theorist, to explain some phenomenon of interest.
Appropriate Theory Criterion
Evaluating a theory based on whether 'Does it work?' rather than using 'Truth?', which is not an appropriate criterion.
Functions of Theory
The four primary functions of a theory: Descriptive, Explanatory, Simplifying, and Heuristic.
Formal Criteria for Evaluating Theory
The formal criteria used to evaluate a theory, consisting of: 1) Research relevant/testability, 2) Comprehensiveness, and 3) Parsimony (along with 'Do we like it?').
