Mourning
outward expression of grief: the process of adjustment and adaptation to a loss. The Process that occurs after loss
Stages
9-12 of them. Not as noted because people took them too literal

Parkes 4 phases
numbness, yearning, disorganization, dispair
Sanders 5 phases
Shock, awareness of loss, conservation withdrawal, healing, renewal

Accept reality
Worden task 2
experience the pain of the death.
Worden task 3
adjust to an environment in which the deceased is missing
Worden task 4
to find an enduring connection with the deceased in the midst of embarking on a new life.
Abnormal grief
active suicidal/homicidal ideation. Plan, intention, means.
Help with remembering
encourage story telling, memory boxes, scrapbooks.

extremely prevalent to relationships where the deceased was highly valued and/or looked up to
Harvard child bereavement study
Showed that large numbers of children stay connected to their deceased parent by speaking to, thinking of, dreaming of, and feeling watched over.
