What are the two basic types of processes?
Structured and Dynamic Processes
Describe Structured Processes.
Support operational and structured managerial decisions, standardized, formally defined, exceptions rare, slow to change. Example: Customer returns, order entry.
Describe Dynamic Processes.
Support strategic and less structured managerial decisions, less specific, fluid, informal, exceptions frequent, adaptive and rapidly changing. Example: Collaboration, social networking.
What are the three scopes of processes?
Workgroup, Enterprise, and Inter-enterprise
Give an example of a Workgroup process.
Doctor's office/medical practice
Give an example of an Enterprise process.
Hospital
Give an example of an Inter-enterprise process.

How is process quality measured?
Efficiency (cheaper & faster) and Effectiveness (experience, easy to use)
What are the three ways to improve or re-engineer a process?
Change process structure, change process resources, or change both structure and resources.
In what ways do information systems improve process quality?
Performing an activity, augmenting human activity, and controlling data quality & process flow.
What is an information silo?
Data isolated in separate information systems.
List some problems caused by information silos.
Data duplication, data inconsistency, disjointed processes, limited information, isolated decisions, and increased expense.
What is an Enterprise Application (EA)?
A large-scale software system designed to help organizations streamline and automate their business processes.
What does BPR stand for?
Business Process Re-engineering
Why is Business Process Re-engineering required?
Systems Automation requiring different thinking for processes.
What does CRM stand for?
Customer Relationship Management
What are the process categories within a CRM system?
Solicitation and Lead Management, Relationship Management, and Customer Support.
What does ERP stand for?
Enterprise Resource Planning
What are some key elements of an ERP system?
Supply chain, manufacturing, CRM, human resources, and accounting.

What does EAI stand for?
Enterprise Application Integration
What is the purpose of EAI systems?
To integrate disparate systems so there is data integrity.
List challenges of implementing and upgrading information systems.
Collaborative management, requirements gaps, transition problems, employee resistance, and new technology.
What is a key security consideration when centralizing data?
While risk is higher in case of data loss, you can focus on securing a single source of data instead of many islands of data.
