Culture
Addresses a broad set of different phenomena including: traditions, habits, patterns, behaviors.
They are shaped by society’s prevailing beliefs, norms, and values
Political Culture
Political norms, beliefs, and values.
Simply baked into the system and so inherent that people dpn’t think about them
International Relations
Focuses on how countries interact with each other in a variety of areas, such as : borders, trade, and even war
Diplomacy
Process in which states try to influence the behavior of actors by bargaining, negotiatin, talking, or refaraming from a specific action, or appealing to the foreign public for support of a position.
Recognition
The Acceptance by the international community of a state’s sovereignty over its territory.
Can also mean recognizing a particular government or ruler.
Sovereignty
The real power to make political decisions with any given territory that does not need to be approved by another actor in some political system.
Legitimacy
The moral and Legal right to rule, which is based on law, custom, hereditary principals, or the consent of the governed.

Can practice legitimate political violence in pursuit of political interest
Nation
Historically formed group of people
unifed by a complex and historical set of diverse social and cultural bonds
That generate feelings of affinity and distinctiveness among individuals
Under a shared subjection to a system of rules
City-State
A state that centers on a single city, rather than a large territory.
Nation-State
A formal political organization;
Which links together state and nation;
Whereby each nation should have a single state;
And each state should connect to a nation.
Feudal System
A political system in which legal and political subservience is owed to multiple overlapping authorities- such as local nobels, monarchs, and even major relgious figures like the pope- rather than being soley by a territory.
Balance of Power System
System in which no single actor is dominant and the distribution of power in this system is unequal among different countries.
Concert of Europe
After acknowledging there was an inability of several states to form an alliance against Napoleon- whihc made it easier for him to cause havoc- countries signed the Concert of Europe.
Cooperate and maintain peace and stability;
Maintain the status quo in euro-international politics;
And Confer periodically.
Colonialism
Manifested through the establishment of colonies/ territories governed from the Imperial Center, rather than having their own government.
Was driven by the idea that all territories would be taken and countries slow to practice would be at a disadvantage
Imperialism
Using economic means or military threats to control the government of another country or territory.
Nationalism
Doctrine that recognizes the nation as the primary unit of political allegiance.

Rollback and Containment
Forcing a change in the major policies of a state, usually by replacing its ruling regime
Liberalism
Global peace and cooperation are achievable through international trade, diplomacy, and shared rules rather than military power
Complex Interdependece Theory
States and non-state actors are deeply connected through multiple economic, social, and political channels, making military force less useful for resolving disputes
Economic Structuralism Theory
Views the global capitalist system, rather than military power or political anarchy, as the primary driver of international politics and state behavior.
Constructivism
A social theory asserting that global politics are shaped by shared ideas, beliefs, and values rather than just material power
Public Diplomacy
Process of targetting both foreign publics and elites, attempting to create an overall image that enhances a country’s ability to achieve it’s objectives
Two Track Diplomacy
Process of using individuals outside of the governmetn to carry out negotiations withi foreign states.
