boston tea party

colonial protest against the british tea act of 1773 which placed a monopoly and tax on tea sld to the colonies. Rather than allowing the tea to be unloaded ad sold, boston protestors boarded the ships in december 1773, seized the cargo and dumped 342 crates of tea into the boston harbor

Committees of correspondence

groups organized by kocal colonial governmeents for the purpose of coordinating written communication with the other colonies. the network of committees would later provide a foundation for formal political union among the colonies

common sense

political pamphlet written by thomas paine that helped convince american colonists of the necessity to fight against great britisan and become an independent nation

continental congess

a body of representatives from the British north American colonies who met to respond to england’s intolerable acts. the congress declared independence in july 1776 and later drafted the articles of confederation

1776 document expressing the desire and intention of the american colonies who met to break ties with Great Britian due to injustice perpetrated by King George III
