Genetic Variation
differences between individuals based of genetics. comes from mutations, reproduction changes, and chromosomal change
Population
group of the same species in the same area and interbreed (breed with one another)
Allele frequency
P(dominant allele) + Q(recessive allele) = 1??
means that if there are no changes in population
Macroevolution
Large changes caused by gradual build up of changes. results in new species.
Microevolution
small-scale evolutionary changes that occur within a population over time. Usually happens over short periods of time, frequently on islands.
Genetic drift
Unpredictable change in population, like if a tornado took out 3 out of 4 brown sheep, and there was only 5 black sheep and 1 brown sheep.
Gene Flow
movement of organisms in and out of a population. often called migration
Natural selection
Darwins theory on how species adapt to changing enviorments. often based on phenotype not genotype.

physical characteristics of an organism

Genetic information about an organism
Evidence for evolution

vestigial structures
Functions in the body that no longer serve a purpose for the organism, but did for their common ancestor.
