Social Learning Theory by Bandura
Theory that states that learning occurs through observation, imitation, and modeling, emphasizing that people learn by observing others and their consequences, rather than solely through direct experience
Reciprocal Determinism
Behaviorists see the environment as the chief impetus for development and Bandura suggested that the impetus for development is bidirectional
Observational Learning
People learn appropriate social behavior chiefly by observing and imitating models that is, by watching other people
Social Cognitive Theory
Theory in which cognitive processes are at work as people observe models, learn chinks of behavior, and mentally put the chunks together into complex new behavior patterns
Self-Efficacy
Confidence in one’s ability
Vicarious Reinforcement
When the model’s behavior is rewarded, the behavior is more likely to be imitated
Experiential Learning Theory by Kolb
Focuses on the best way to learn things is by actually having experiences
Concrete Experience, Reflective Observation, Abstract Conceptualization, & Active Experimentation
4 Stages of Kolb's Experiential Learning Cycle
Concrete Experience
Kolb's stage where there is a new experience, situation, or reinterpretation of existing experience in the light of new concepts
Reflective Observation
Kolb's Stage where a person reflects on the new experience in the light of their existing knowledge of particular importance are any inconsistencies between experience and understanding
Abstract Conceptualization
Kolb's stage that states that reflection gives rise to a new idea, or a modification of an existing abstract concept
Active Experimentation
Kolb's stage in which newly created or modified concepts give rise to experimentation
Diverging, Assimilation, Converging, & Accommodating
Kolb's 4 Basic Learning Styles
Diverging (Feeling and Watching)
Learning style in which learners are imaginative, enjoy observing situations from multiple perspectives, and are good at generating ideas (CE/RO)
Assimilation (Watching and Thinking)
Learning style in which learners are more interested in abstract concepts and theoretical models, and they excel at understanding and organizing information (AC/RO)
Converging (Doing and Thinking)
Learners that are practical problem-solvers who prefer technical tasks and find practical uses for abstract theories and ideas (AC/AE)
Accommodating (Doing and Feeling)
Hands-on learners who enjoy new challenges and experiences, and they are intuitive and enjoy completing plans (CE/AE)
