stems from philosphy. Wants answers to why we think, feel, & act as we do.
The scientific attitude
Curiosity- Is this true can it be confirmed
skepticism- what do you mean? how do you know
Humility- humble willing to be wrong
Critical thinking
ask questions, open to being wrong, rely on EVIDENCE, credible source. Don’t just accept an answer ask questions.
Who are Socrates & Plato
philosophers who believed our minds and bodies work separatly and that our mind lives beyond our body and we are born with knowledge
Who is Aristotle
A philosopher who disagreed with s&p and thought we learn knowledge through life and experience.
John Locke and empiricism
Philosopher that believed knowledge comes from experience. Observation and experimentation enable scientific knowledge.
Wilhelm Wundt
German philosopher who opened the first Psy lab measuring the atoms of the mind.

Used introspection to reveal the structure of the human mind. he first historical school of thought that sought to break down conscious experience into its basic elements such as sensations, feelings, and images to understand the structure of the mind

Early school on How mental and behavior processes function and how they enable the organism to adapt, survive and flourish.

Mary Calkins- finished everything for a PhD and was denied a PhD.
Market Washburn- was the first woman to ACTUALLY earn a PhD.
Behaviorism
J.B Watson and B.F skinner believed that behaviors she be observed not feelings.
