put on gloves and drape towel under resident’s chin

remind resident that you were going to remove their dentures. Upper: index finger on ridge of denture and move it up and down and then pull out. Lower: turn slightly to lift it out of mouth

put denture in denture cup with resident’s name on it and take it with you to the sink, line the sink with towel and fill halfway with water

hold dentures over sink and brush all surfaces with denture safe toothpaste

rinse dentures with warm water and place in cup of cool water

clean resident mouth with swab if necessary. Help resident rinse mouth with water or diluted mouthwash, if requested

check mouth, lips, tongue, and teeth for odor, cracking, sores, bleeding, and discoloration. Check for loose teeth. Report any unusual findings to nurse

help resident place dentures back in their mouth. Use lip moisturizer if requested.
