SC connector
Also known as the Subscriber Connector, square connector, or standard connector, it uses a push-and-snap mechanism to lock in place and is commonly used in data centers.
LC connector
Short for Local Connector, Lucent connector, or little connector; this is a small connector featuring a clip on top to lock it into the interface.
ST connector
Standing for Straight Tip, this connector uses a bayonet-style mechanism where it is pushed into an interface and given a twist to lock it in place.
Ferrule
A protective component located around the fiber, which is a visible feature on an ST connector.
MPO connector
The Multi-fiber Push On connector allows for higher efficiency by containing 12 individual fibers within a single cable connection.
MTP
A name provided by Corning to refer to their version of the MPO (Multi-fiber Push On) connector.
Bayonet connector
The specific type of locking mechanism used by ST connectors requiring a push and a twist to secure.
