Gyri/gyrus
raised areas on the cerebrum cortex
Sulci/sulcus
grooves on the cerebrum cortex
longitudinal fissure
separates the cerebral cortical hemispheres from each other

Dura mater
the thick, tough, outermost white membrane surrounding the brain.
Pia mater
the innermost membrane. sits directly on the surface of the brain (not visible).
Arachnoid membrane
lies between the pia and dura maters. most easily visible by prying 2 gyri apart.
Subarachnoid space
Crisscrossed by web-like strands of connective tissue. not visible on sheep brain.
CSF
produced by the choroid plexus and ependymal cells. not visible on sheep brain
Choroid plexus
located inside the lateral ventricles, dark blackish red in the sheep brain. lateral ventricles have to do with circulating CSF
Pituitary gland
found on the ventral side of the brain, embedded in the dura mater. probably won’t be on the actual sheep brain itself.
Optic chiasm
a white x shaped structure that defines the anterior border of the hypothalamus
Optic tracts
the bottom part of the x of the optic chiasm. the top part of the x is cranial nerve II (optic)
Infundibulum
the small flap attached to the top of the pituitary gland that connects the pituitary gland to the hypothalamus
Olfactory bulbs
lies in the rostroventral portion of the cerebrum.
Olfactory tract
the linear extensions from the olfactory bulbs in the rostroventral portion of the cerebrum
Pyriform cortex
