Trocar

Penrose drain
A penrose drain is a piece of latex tubing placed under the skin. The purpose of the drain is to allow fluids such as blood or pus to drain from the space between the skin and muscle to allow healing. The fluids will drain out between the skin and the tube, not through the center of the tube.

Type of IV catheter in which the teflon catheter extends inside a metal needle. Most common for long catheters used in the jugular vein. the catheter must be advanced through the needle after the needle is placed in the vein. the needle is then backed out of the skin and covered with a plastic needle guard.
