Marine Air-Ground Task Forces

1. Ground Combat Element (GCE): infantry augmented with artillery

Marine Expeditionary Force (40k-80k)

• Largest principal warfighting element in active force structure of USMC

• usually commanded by Lt Gen

• Each MEF has 1-3 MEUs assigned to it

• permanent structure

• next largest MAGTF structure behind MEF

  protection system, C4ISR capabilities, 3500-5100lbs payload

M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS)

• Purpose: most advanced artillery system, engage targets under all weather conditions,

  precise strikes from over 40 miles away

• Features: accurate within 26 feet; six tubes hold 200-pound rockets; three marines;

  24,000lbs, fires M270 artillery rockets and anti-aircraft missiles, ready to fire within 15

  minutes

Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV)’

• Purpose: replacement for the AAV, transport a squad-sized element from ship-to-shore

  and onto overland objectives across a contested landing zone, ground mobility and speed

• Features: 8x8 wheeled vehicle, 65 MPH land and 6-7 knots in water; armed with a M2

  .50 cal or Mk-19 40 mm, v-shaped hull and blast seats, 3 marines and 13 embarked

  troops

M240B Medium Machine Gun

• Function: continues and high rate of fire to engage long-range targets, heavier but fire

• Function: lightweight 40mm six-shot revolver-type grenade launcher, 6 rounds in 3 seconds

MK19 Mod 3 Automatic Grenade Launcher

• Function: automatic weapon suppression fire for offensive and defensive purposes,

• Function: After firing, marines can begin moving to a dif erent area before the missile

• Function: effective, indirect fire on a target, constant and accurate high-angle

  suppressive fire on targets, locate targets by converting chart data to firing data

Know and understand the role of the infantry and how non-combat arms MOS support the infantry.

• Combat Arms: direct confrontation with enemy to kill or capture them, break their will to continue to fight, and seize and hold terrain or to deny it to the enemy. Assert combat power and dominance on the battlefield

• Combat Support: direct support of the forces on the battlefield by providing intel., comms., engineering, and chemical warfare. Ensure combat arms are manned, armed, fed, fueled, maintained, and moved.
