tiny grains of pigment produced by melanocytes that determine skin color.

what is collagen?

a fibrous, connective tissue that provides skin form and strength.

what is elastin?

a protein similar to collagen that gives the skin its elasticity.

what are the two major glands in the skin and their functions?

1. sudoriferous glands - excrete perspiration and detoxify the body.

2. sebaceous glands - produce sebum and are connected to hair follicles.
