Arms Act LEVEL 1

Section 1

Short title, extent and commencement: Act name, applies to all India, starts via notification.

Section 2

Definitions and interpretation: Defines key terms like arms, ammunition, and firearms.

Section 3

Licence for acquisition and possession of firearms and ammunition: Mandates a licence and limits possession to two firearms.

Section 4

Licence for acquisition and possession of arms of specified description in certain cases: Regulates non-firearms (like swords) in notified areas.

Section 5

Licence for manufacture, sale, etc., of arms and ammunition: Prohibits unlicensed manufacturing, selling, testing, or transferring.

Section 6

Licence for the shortening of guns or conversion of imitation firearms into firearms: Bans cutting barrels or converting fakes without a licence.

Section 7

Prohibition of acquisition or possession, or of manufacture or sale of prohibited arms or prohibited ammunition: Absolute ban on dealing with prohibited weapons.

Section 8

Prohibition of sale or transfer of firearms not bearing identification marks: Bans tampering with or selling guns without IDs and presumes guilt.

Section 9

Prohibition of acquisition or possession by, or of sale or transfer to, young persons and certain other persons of firearms, etc.: Bans guns for under-21s, ex-convicts, and bonded persons.

Section 10

Licence for import and export of arms, etc.: Regulates bringing arms in or taking them out of India.

Section 11

Power to prohibit import or export of arms, etc.: Central Govt power to ban cross-border movement of specific arms.

Section 12

Power to restrict or prohibit transport of arms: Central Govt power to restrict or ban domestic movement of arms.
