STIR

Short Tau Inversion Recovery. type of T2 sequence with a 180 degree inversion recovery pulse followed by a 90 degree refocusing pulse. good for suppressing fat and showing trauma or infection.

TR 350-750ms. TE as small as possible. short TR, Short TE. anatomy scan, fluid is dark, fat is bright

TR 3200-6500ms. TE 80-140ms. long TR, long TE.

Gradient Echo Sequence. Only 90 degree pulses and variable flip angles (no 180). gradient allows less than 90. Shorter TE and shorter TR because no 180 pulse.
