Where does a cP air mass form and what are it’s characteristics
Land and north; cold and dry
Where does a mP air mass form and what are it’s characteristics
Ocean and north; cool and moist
Where does a cT air mass form and what are it’s characteristics
Land and south; hot and dry
Where does a mT air mass form and what are it’s characteristics
Ocean and south; warm and moist
Which side is windward and what happens to the air on that side of the mountain?
The windward side is the side receiving the wind or facing the ocean; warm moist air rises, expands and cools off then moisture condenses forming clouds and precipitation
Which side is leeward and what happens to the air on that side of the mountain?
The leeward side is the side sheltered from wind or facing land (away from ocean); cool dry air sinks and warms up which drys land forming a rain shadow and desert.
What are the 4 steps to create wind
uneven heating of Earth
warmer air becomes less dense and rises and cooler air becomes more dense and sinks
Rising air creates areas of low pressure and sinking air creates areas of high pressure
Air moves from high pressure to low pressure
How are temperature and density related?
the higher the temperature the faster and more spread apart molecules become created an area of low density while in lower temperatures the slower and more condensed molecules become creating an area of high density; temp and density are inversely proportional.
Why does warm air always go over cold air?
Warm air is less dense creating a lighter weight making it rise while cool air is more dense creating a heavier weight making it sink bat W
What happens to the warm air when it rises if there is enough moisture in the air?
Moisture in the air will condense and form clouds creating precipitation
