The working class, people who do not own businesses
Autocrat
A ruler or person who holds absolute power
republic
a country where people hold the power and use it to vote for leaders to represent them
Clericalism/ Anticlericalism
Clericalism is the excessive influence of authority by religious leaders, anticlericalism is the direct opposition to it.
coup d’etat
A sudden takeover of a government by a small group of higher ranking people
Feudalism
A social and political system where people give loyalty to high ranking lords in exchange for shelter and land
Egalitarian
A person who believes all people are equal
Franchise
The right to vote in public elections
Liberalism (5)
liberties: freedom of conscience, freedom of speech
universal suffrage
parliamentary constitutional government
independent judiciary
free trade and international co-operation; diplomacy to be used in relations between states
Fascism (5)
limiting individual freedoms in the interest of the state
extreme nationalism
the use of violence to achieve ends
keeping power in the hands of an elite group or leader
aggressive foreign policy

egalitarian social system
governments providing for the more needy members of society

everyone should get what he/she needs and to work according to their ability
the state will wither away and there will only be people who are interested in managing the day-to-day business of keeping society going

traditional institutions in society
change in government or society is unwelcome or should only be gradual
emphasis in law and order
dislike of too much government interference in business or in one's everyday life
