ABCDE of melanoma
A mnemonic device used to evaluate moles for signs of melanoma: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Color variation, Diameter greater than 6mm, Evolving changes.
Dermis
The layer of skin beneath the epidermis, containing connective tissue, hair follicles, and glands.
Erythema
Intense redness of the skin due to excess blood in dilated superficial capillaries.
Xerosis
Abnormal dryness of the skin, which may feel rough and scaly.
Pruritus
Intense itching sensation, often indicative of primary skin diseases or systemic disorders.
Braden scale
A tool for predicting pressure sore risk based on sensory perception, moisture, activity, mobility, nutrition, and friction.
Edema
Swelling caused by excess fluid trapped in the body's tissues.
Cellulitis
A bacterial infection of the dermis and subcutaneous tissue, usually characterized by redness, swelling, and tenderness.
Alopecia
Loss of hair from the scalp or body, which may occur due to various medical conditions.
Turgor
The skin's ability to return to its normal position after being pinched; a measure of hydration.
