I haven't finished these as these are a recreation of my real physical flashcards but digitalized increase i ever forget about my real ones :)))
Organize these by size:
Organism, tissue, cell ,organ and organ system.
Cells, tissues, organ, organ system and organism
What is the name of the tissue that covers our whole body?
(Our skin)
Epitheral tissue
What are the three main tissues?
Muscular, glandular and epithelial
What does the muscular tissue do?
Contract to bring movement
What does the glandular tissue do?
Produce substances
E.g enzymes
What happens during digestion to large food molecules?
Large food molecules are broken into small molecules by different types of enzymes.
Why are large food molecules broke into smaller molecules?
Too be bale to be absorbed into our bloodstream.
What is a active site of a enzyme?
It is the part of the enzyme that specific so that a substrate can be broken down by the enzyme.
What is the ‘Lock and key theory’
That all enzymes can only break down a substrate that fits perfectly into their active site.
What does it mean for a active site to ‘Denature’?
When the active site has changed so much that it can no longer bind to its substrate or work properly.
How can a active site denature?
-High temperatures
-Wrong PH
Name the digestive enzymes that break down:
Carbohydrates
Starch
Proteins
Lipids
Carbohydrates are broken down by Carbohydrase
Starch are broken down by amylase
Proteins are broken down by protease
Lipids are broken down by lipase
What are carbohydrates broken into?
Simple sugars
e.g- glucose
Amylase is a carbohydrase.
What does it break down to make?
Starch into maltose
What does maltose break down into?
Glucose
What are proteins broken into?
aminoacids
What are lipids broken into?
Fatty acids and also glycerol
Chemicals for the liver and pancreas go to which organ during digestion?
small intestine
What enzymes does the pancreas release?
Protease and amylase
What enzymes are in the saliva?
Amylase
What is the acid called in the stomach?
Hydrochlroic acid
What does the hydrochloric acid in the stomach digest?
Proteins
Why does the stomach churn food into a fluid?
To increase surface area so its easier to digest
What does the liver release?
Bile.
What does bile do?
It emulsifies (digests) lipids and neutralizes stomach acid
Bile is released by the liver but where is it stored?
Gallbladder
Is food absorbed into the blood stream by:
Osmosis, diffusion or active transport?
Diffusion AND active transport
What does the large intestine do?
Absorbs water into the bloodstream
