Gustatory Sense
the sense of taste
Papillae
tiny bumps on the tongue which contain taste receptors (tastebuds)
Taste buds detect five tastes:
sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and umami
Tactile corpuscle
touch receptors located in the skin
Adaption
occurs when sensory stimulation is continually applied and you get used to it
Pain receptors
branching of free nerve endings
Referred pain
pain that originates in an internal organ and is felt in another region of the skin
Phantom pain
pain felt in an area that no longer exists
