South American hair

Also known as Brazilian hair; it is soft to the touch and doesn't frizz easily due to its weight.

Chinese hair

A type of Asian hair that is characterized as being thick and coarse.

Indian hair

A type of Asian hair that is finer in texture and darker in color.

Human/animal blends

The third in cost for hair types; may be made from yak, angora, or sheep.

Yak hair

Hair taken from the animal's belly for its pure white color, making it easy to add fantasy colors for theater or fashion.

Human/synthetic blend

The least expensive blend consisting of half human and half synthetic hair.

Monofilament

A synthetic fiber that looks, behaves, and performs like real human hair; it is heat-friendly and tangles less than other fibers.

Toyokalon

The second most expensive synthetic fiber; it has a silky texture with high sheen and maintains curls for longer periods.

Kanekalon

The most commonly used synthetic fiber; made from acrylic fibers, it is flame-retardant, heat-friendly, and behaves most like human hair.

Polypropylene

The cheapest of all synthetic fibers; it is not flame-retardant and is being phased out of the industry.

High temperature fibers

The newest development in hair fibers, also known as heat resistant, which can be curled or straightened and behaves like human hair.

Wig

An artificial covering for the head consisting of a network of interwoven hair that covers $100\%$ of the head.

Hairpiece

A small wig used to cover the top or crown of the head, or an attachment such as a ponytail or bang.

Weft

Long strips of hair with a threaded edge, consisting of hair strands woven onto a fine strip of cloth.

Hand tied wig

A wig where individual strands of hair are inserted into mesh foundations and knotted with a needle, resembling natural human growth.

Semi hand tied

A construction method using a combination of hand tied hair and machine sewn wefts, often featuring both synthetic and human hair.

Machine made wig

The least expensive construction where wefts are fed through a sewing machine and stitched together to form the base.

Wig block

A head-shaped form made of canvas-covered cork or styrofoam used for practice, styling, coloring, and cutting wigs.

Cap wig

A wig constructed with an elastic mesh-fiber base that requires special fitting and often features a front edge resembling the scalp.

Clip ins

A temporary attachment method where wefts of hair are installed using multiple small pressure-sensitive clips.

Tape ins

Semi-permanent extensions made of pre-taped wefts with medical grade adhesive, usually $1$ inch wide.

Braid and sew

An extension method where natural hair is braided into cornrows and extensions are sewn onto the braids.

Micro link

A non-glue extension technique that uses tiny metal tubes made of aluminum or copper to combine natural hair with extension strands.

Bonding

A method of applying hair wefts using a rubber-based glue adhesive placed right below the parting.

Fusion bonding

An extension method where strands of hair are attached to natural hair using keratin bonds and a special heating tool.
