Transport network

A system containing nodes linked by routes that enables the movement of people, goods, and services between locations.

Node

A location within a transport system that provides entry to the network, such as a bus stop or airport.

Route

A path or channel that connects nodes to enable travel between locations.

Network density

The quantity of nodes and routes present in a given area, where a higher value signifies greater coverage.

Local scale transport node

An entry point serving short-distance, everyday movement within a small area, such as a city neighborhood.

Intermodal transport

A travel journey that involves switching between two or more different modes of transportation.

Unimodal transport

A travel journey that uses only one mode of transportation from start to finish.

Hub-and-spoke network

A system where peripheral locations connect to each other through a central intermediary hub.

Point-to-point network

A system where locations are connected directly to one another without passing through an intermediate hub.

Carbon footprint

The measure of total greenhouse gas emissions generated by human activities.

Road pricing

A strategy that charges drivers fees for using specific roads during peak times to reduce traffic congestion.

Displacement effect

A limitation of congestion charging where drivers shift to alternative routes rather than reducing overall trips.

Mobility

The ability of individuals and freight to move independently from one place to another.

Barrier-free features

Infrastructure modifications, such as ramps, lifts, and tactile paving, designed to assist elderly individuals and persons with disabilities.
