Una sociedad dividida después la Guerra Civil

Había una división entre ricos y pobres mientras los rebeldes luchaban contra el régimen fascista que se apoderó de sus tierras. En el laberinto de pan el granjero y su hijo viven terriblemente bajo el fascismo (podemos ver que llevan ropa sucia y deben cazar conejos) y al final son asesinados por el capitán Vidal. Refleja que después de la guerra civil era más seguro para los pobres ponerse del lado de los rebeldes, ya que los fascistas tenían tan poco cuidado por ellos y podían lastimarlos sin razón. 

There was a divide between the rich and poor as the rebels were fighting against the fascist regime that took over their lands. In pan’s labyrinth the farmer and his son live terribly under fascism (we can see they wear dirty clothing and must hunt for rabbits) and in the end are killed by captain Vidal. It reflects that after the civil war it was safer for the poor to side with the rebels as the fascists had so little care for them and could hurt them with no reason. 

Los nacionalistas están representados por el capitán Vidal y los soldados bajo su control, y podemos asumir que el granjero y su hijo están del lado de los republicanos, ya que uno de ellos puede llevar ‘Folletos rojos de Propoganda’. La película destaca el mal del fascismo cuando vemos al capitán Vidal asesinar brutalmente al granjero y a su hijo. Una trama de la película es la misión del capitán Vidal de deshacerse de las guerrillas en las montañas, que estaban contra la dictadura franquista después de la derrota republicana en el civil español la guerra civil española 

The nationalists are represented by captain Vidal and the soldiers under his control, and we can assume the farmer and his son side with the republicans as one of them is maybe carrying ‘red propaganda leaflets’ . The movie highlights the evil of fascism when we see captain Vidal brutally murder the farmer and his son. One plot of the movie is Captain Vidal’s mission to get rid of the guerillas in the mountains – who were against the Francoist dictatorship after the Republican defeat in the Spanish civil war.

Vemos la opresión de las mujeres por hombres como el Capitán Vidal que dicta todo - ordenando a Carmen usar una silla de ruedas. Valora la vida de su hijo más que su esposa, ya que instruye al médico para salvar la vida de su hijo sobre Carmen. La mujer es vista como una segunda clase. Mientras que los rebeldes tienen un punto de vista diferente de las mujeres, y ella es bienvenida por ellos, y ella ayuda a su causa de liberar a España. 

We see the oppression of women by men like Captain Vidal who dictates everything - ordering Carmen to use a wheelchair. He values his son’s life more than his wife as he instructs the doctor to save his son’s life over Carmen. Woman are seen as a second class. Whereas the rebels have a different viewpoint of women, and she is welcomed by them, and she aids their cause of freeing Spain.
