Chemical Reaction
The process by which one or more substances are rearranged to form different substances.
Evidence of Chemical Change
Indicators that a chemical reaction may have occurred, such as a change in temperature, color, odor, gas bubbles, or the appearance of a solid.
Reactant
The starting substances in a chemical reaction.
Product
The substances formed in a chemical reaction.
Chemical Equation
A statement that uses chemical formulas to show the identities and relative amounts of the substances involved in a reaction.
Coefficient
A number written in front of a reactant or product in a chemical equation, indicating the lowest whole-number ratio of the amounts of all the reactants and products.
Balanced Chemical Equation
An equation that follows the law of conservation of mass, ensuring that the number of atoms of each element is equal on both sides.
Skeleton Equation
An equation that uses symbols and formulas to represent the reactants and products without the coefficients.
