Epithelial tissue
The type of tissue in the stomach responsible for secreting digestive enzymes.
Muscle tissue
The type of tissue in the stomach whose primary function is to churn and mix food.
Liver
The organ in the digestive system responsible for producing bile.
Connective tissues
Tissues that contribute to the function of organs in the digestive system by providing structural support and connecting different tissues.
Homeostasis
The body's ability to maintain a stable internal environment despite changes in external conditions.
Negative feedback loops
The most common feedback loops that work to counteract changes that deviate from a set point, such as regulation of blood sugar and sweating on a hot summer day.
Positive feedback loops
Less common feedback loops that amplify changes, such as the release of oxytocin during childbirth and lactation.
Sensors
Components in feedback loops that detect changes in the body's environment.
Control centers
Components in feedback loops that process information received from sensors.
Effectors
Components in feedback loops that bring about the necessary adjustments.
Atom
The smallest unit of matter.
Ion
An atom that gains or loses an electron, resulting in an electrical charge.
