Polarity
The electrons are atrracted to the element that has more electrons. For example in anwater molecule, electrons are attracted to Oxygen because it is more electronegative than hydrogen

Allows water molecules to stick to each other as a result of hydrogen bonds

Surface tension
Measure of how difficult it is to break or stretch the surface of a liquid
Temperature stabilization
Water stabilizes air temperature by absorbing heat from air that is warmer and releasing the stored heat to air that is cooler.
Heat of vaporization
The change of liquid water to gas. The hydrogen bonds must be broken, it moderates global temperature and allows for water to have a high boiling point
Evaporative cooling
As liquid evaporates, the surface of the liquid that remains behind cools. This makes it harder to continue the evaporative process
Water expands as it freezes
Ice is less dense than water. It expands because of hydrogen bonding, it bonds molecules to keep at arms length

Water is the solvent. Ions and polar compounds can dissolve in water

Water loving; A substance that has an affinity for water

This allows substances (water) to break hydrogen bonds
