Can cause irritation and sensitivity on or in the body

Corrosive

Burns through skin and metal

Explosive

IF treated incorrectly chemical has sufficient energy to explode

Toxic

When eaten or breathed in it can kill

Harmful to the environment

Danger to life in environment and could mean the substance is dangerous to aquatic life.

Serious health hazard

Can cause cancer, genetic defects or damage to organs.

Gas under pressure

A gas is being stored under pressure. This doesn't mean the gas is usually dangerous but even normally safe gases carry risks when pressurised.

Flammable

Catches fire easily.

Oxidising

Something that doesn't burn itself but provides oxygen for other flammable substances to burn.
