Conversion factors
Where we have equal quantities but different units to allow conversion.
Measurements
All measurements require a number and the unit. Ex: 5m = 5 meters
SI units
International system of units.
Length
How long, wide, high, tall but it's 1 dimensional. Unit = meters (m)
Mass
The amount of matter you have; unit is Kilogram (kg).
Volume
The amount of space occupied; unit is cubic meter (m3)
Density
How much matter do I have in this amount of space; unit=g/cm3 (grams per cubic centimeter ) or (grams per milliliter).
Temperature
How hot or cold. In Science det. Average Kinetic energy. Unit = Kelvin (k)
Conversion Scale
K = °C +273
Energy
Overall Kinetic & Potential Energy; Unit Joule (J)
Mega (M)
10^6
Kilo (k)
10^3 = 1000
Hecto (h)
10^2 = 100
Deka (dk)
10^1 or simply 10
deci(d)
10^-1
Centi (c)
10^-2
Milli (m)
10^-3
micro (u)
10^-6
nano (n)
10^-9
Angstrom (Å)
10^-10
Conversion
Converting from 1 unit to another.
Dimensional Analysis
Can be a multistep process; show work!
Prefix Conversions
The largest unit always = 1 for prefix conversions.
