Drama

A form of literature written for performance that originated with ancient Greek plays.

Comedy

A story that ends happily, usually involving common people rather than kings and royalty, which can deal with serious subjects viewed through a braided lens.

Cast

A list provided at the beginning of a drama representing the persons who appear in the work.

Conflict

The point of tension between characters that moves the story forward.

Man versus man

A form of conflict occurring between two characters.

Man versus society or man versus nature

A form of conflict between a character and their surroundings.

Man versus self

A form of conflict involving the internal struggle of a character.

Theme

The main idea the writer is trying to convey, which can usually be expressed in a single generalized statement.

Act

A division of a play, comparable to a chapter within a novel.

Scene

A further division within an act of a play.
