Machine Foundation Mass (Vibration Dampening)
Foundation mass that should be 10 to 20 times the weight of the machinery it is supposed to support if the unbalance forces produced by the machine can be calculated to dampen vibration.
Foundation Perimeter Isolation Distance
The distance of 25mm around the perimeter of a machine foundation used to isolate it from floor slabs or building footings and eliminate transmission of vibration.
Foundation Bolt Pipe Sleeve Diameter
An inside diameter of a pipe sleeve surrounding foundation bolts that is at least 3 times the diameter of the anchor bolt.
Flooded refrigeration system
A refrigeration system in which only part of the refrigerant passing over the heat transfer is separated from the vapor and recirculated.
Comfortable Cooling Relative Humidity
Effective relative humidity of air maintained at 50% to 60% for comfortable cooling.
Ammonia Water Tank Ratio
Requirement of at least 1 liter of water for every 120 gallons of ammonia, used exclusively for ammonia absorption upon discharge.
Window Air Conditioner Exhaust Duct Height
Installation height of not less than 2.10m above floor level when exhaust ducts discharge into corridors, hallways, arcades, or sidewalks.
Refrigerating Plant Helmet/Mask Requirement
Safety equipment required for refrigerating plants rated for more than 35kg.
Machine Room Refrigerant Storage Limit
Up to 140kilograms of refrigerant stored in approved containers in a machine room at any given time.
Refrigeration Machinery Room Walking Space Width
An unobstructed walking space of at least 3feet in width.
Refrigeration Machinery Room Walking Space Height
An unobstructed walking space of at least 6ft and 8inches in height.
Clean agent
Electrically non-conducting volatile or gaseous fire extinguisher that does not leave residue upon evaporation.
Permanent gravity ventilation openings
Openings having not less than 2sq.ft. net free area opening directly to the outside of the building or extending by continuous duct.
Occupancy Ventilation Duct Temperature Limit
Ducting used for conveying air at temperatures not exceeding 150∘C through other than heating or air conditioning systems.
Natural Ventilation Wall Opening Ratio
Minimum permanent wall opening equal to 4% of the net occupied area for spaces provided with natural ventilation.
Meeting Room Outdoor Air Rate Requirement
620cfm required for a single zone AC unit serving an interior 2000sq.ft. meeting/conference room with 100 people and ceiling supply and return.
Liquid receiver
A vessel permanently connected to a system by inlet and outlet pipes for storage of liquid refrigerant.
Stop valve
A shut-off valve other than a valve for controlling the flow of refrigerant.
Absorption refrigeration system
A refrigeration system in which the refrigerant gas evolved in the evaporator is taken up in an absorber and released in a generator upon the application of heat.
Comfort Cooling Temperature Standard
Temperature of air maintained at 20−23.3∘C for comfort cooling.
Comfort Cooling Relative Humidity Standard
Air humidity maintained at 55% to 60% relative humidity for comfort cooling.
Refrigerant Piping Open Space Clearance
Clearance height of not less than 2290mm above the floor when crossing an open space that affords passageway in a building.
Refrigerant Charging Side
The low pressure side of the system where refrigerant is added.
Cascade refrigeration system
A refrigeration system having two or more refrigerant circuits, each with a pressure-imposing element, condenser, and evaporator, where the evaporator of one circuit cools the condenser of another circuit.
Refrigerant
A substance which produces a refrigerating effect by its absorption of heat while expanding or evaporating.
Brine
Any liquid cooled by the refrigerant and used for the transmission of heat without a change in its state.
Refrigerant 12 Chemical Name
Dichlorodifluoromethane.
Ammonia Chemical Symbol
NH3
Freon 12 Chemical Symbol
CCl2F2
Condensate Drain Pipe Size
At least 19mm nominal pipe size made of copper, galvanized steel, or other corrosion-resistant material.
Chilled water system
An indirect refrigerating system employing water as the circulating system.
Humidity
The ratio of the actual weight of moisture to the weight of saturated water vapor of mixture.
Condenser
A vessel in which vaporized refrigerant is liquefied by the removal of heat.
Humeter
Instrument to measure the relative humidity of the atmospheric air which is important as comfort factor.
