Climate
General pattern of atmospheric condition in a given area over periods ranging from at least 30 years to thousands of years based primarily on the area's coverage, annual temperature and annual amount of precipitation.
Climate Change
A change in regional or global climate patterns due to natural or man-made factors.
Sea level rise
Rising ocean Heat
Worsening and Wilder weather
Drought
Exceptional heat waves
Arctic & Antarctic Warming
Flooding
Change in seasonality
Glacier melting
Temperature in the troposphere increasing
Signs of Climate Chnage:
Sea Level Rise
Global sea level rising steadily from 0.04 to 0.1 inch per year since 1900.
Rising Ocean Heat
The ocean stores & releases heat and it reached highest level in 2023 at 0.13 degrees Fahrenheit per decade.
Worsening Weather
Stronger typhoons and hurricanes with highly unpredictable wind & humidity patterns.
Drought
Disruption of the water cycle affects agriculture and water sources.
Exceptional Heat Waves
Surface land temperatures have been rising in places which were once moderate.
Arctic & Antarctic Warming
Sea ice cover on the poles shrinking since 30 years ago.
Flooding
Experienced in places which were not flood-prone before.
Change in Seasonality
Disruptions in precipitation (rain or snow) in excess of the normal range.
Glacier Melting
Glaciers are disappearing at the rate of 3.2% per decade.
Kyoto Protocol
An international agreement to control climate change by reducing the emission of hazardous gases.
Volcanic eruptions
Cause warming due to the release of sulfur dioxide, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, and methane.
Tectonic plates
Cause the emission of greenhouse gases and changes in ocean currents.
Ocean Current
Carry warm water and precipitation from the equator to the poles & cold water from the poles to the equator; changes in ocean currents cause damage.
Earth's Orbital Changes
Changes in the tilt and wobble of the earth leads to cooling or warming of climate.
Anthropogenic Sources
Man-made activities that add greenhouse gases to the atmosphere.
Republic Act 6969
Toxic substances and hazardous and nuclear wastes control Act of 1990.
Republic Act 8749
Clean Air Act of 1999.
Republic Act of 9275
Clean Water Act of 2004.
Republic Act 9003
Ecological Solid Wastes Management Act of 2000.
