Anterior approach hip precautions
No external rotation, no hip adduction (crossing legs/feet), no hip extension past 30 degrees, don't move entire leg backwards
Posterior approach hip precautions
1) no flexion past 90'
2) no IR
3) no crossing leg past midline (hip adduction)
4) don't sit on low surfaces
stand pivot transfer
used when a patient is able to stand and bear weight through one or both of LEs. must possess functional balance and ability to pivot.
slide board transfer
i.e. paraplegic, patient unable to support weight on LEs, obese patient, anxious patient afraid to stand/significant fear of falling, bilat amputee, patient with poor trunk balance
squat pivot transfer
If the person is unable to come to a complete stand, they rise enough to clear their bottom and pivot towards the transferring surface to sit down
Dependent transfer
Moving a client who requires physical assistance of one or two caregivers to move from one seating surface to another without mechanical assistance If completed incorrectly, poses a high risk for client and caregiver injury
