Juxtaposition
Placing two elements side by side to present a contrast or comparison.
Anaphora
The repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses or sentences.
Epistrophe
The repetition of a word or phrase at the end of successive clauses or sentences.
Euphemism
A mild or indirect word substituted for one considered too harsh or blunt.
Parallelism
The use of similar grammatical structures in a series.
Hypophora
a speaker poses a question and then immediately answers it. It allows the author to guide the audience’s thinking, clarify a point, or emphasize an idea before readers can form their own response.
Amplification
expanding upon a word or phrase in order to clarify, emphasize, or add detail. Can create a sense of importance, urgency, or emotional impact.
Paradox
a statement that appears self-contradictory or logically impossible, yet often reveals a deeper truth, insight, or complexity
Polysyndeton
The use of multiple conjunctions in close succession. A tool for conveying emotion, controlling pace, and emphasizing ideas
Asyndeton
The omission of conjunctions between parts of a sentence.
Colloquialism
A word, phrase, or pronunciation that is informal and specific to a particular region or group. Characteristics of familiar conversation rather than formal speech. They add color, authenticity, and a sense of realism to writing.
Anadiplosis
Repetition of the last word of one clause at the beginning of the next.
