Anxiolytics
Medications that relieve anxiety.
Sedative-Hypnotics
Drugs that induce sedation and are used to treat sleep disorders.
Benzodiazepines
A class of drugs that act as central nervous system depressants, used for anxiety and sedation.
Barbiturates
A class of drugs that are used as sedatives and anesthetics.
GABA A receptors
Receptors that, when activated, lead to increased influx of chloride ions, causing hyperpolarization of the membrane and reducing neuronal excitability.
Toxicity symptoms
Side effects such as headache, sedation, dizziness, and potential CNS depression.
Phenobarbital
A barbiturate used for long-term treatment of seizures.
Insomnia
A condition characterized by the inability to sleep.
Tolerance
A state in which an individual requires increasing doses of a drug to achieve the same effect.
Stevens-Johnson syndrome
A severe skin reaction which may be caused by certain medications, including some anxiolytics.
Concomitant use
Taking two or more medications at the same time, which may cause interactions.
