What is mass movement?

The movement of soil, rock or mud down a slope due to gravity - often triggered by heavy rain or weathering.

Slumping, Rockfall and Landslide

What is Slumping?

When material moves down the hill. It has a conclave slip plane so material is rotated backwards into the cliff face as it slips.

What is Rockfall?

• rock is broken up

• occurs on bare, well-jointed rockfaces

• the slopes are steep so rocks lose contact with the cliff

• Scree slope is created at the bottom of the cliff

What is a Landslide?

The downward movement of large amounts of rock, mud or soil.
