Atom
Small pieces that make up all matter in the universe.
Compound
A specific type of molecules made of two or more different elements.
Covalent bonds
Bonding of elements through the sharing of electrons.
Electron
Part of an atom that has a negative charge.
Element
Substances made up of only one type of atom.
Hydrogen bonds
Bonding between polar molecules.
Ion
A charge gained due to losing or gaining an electron.
Ionic bonds
Bonding of elements through giving and taking electrons.
Isotope
An element that has the same number of protons and electrons, but different number of neutrons.
Molecule
Is a group of two or more atoms that are bonded to each other.
Neutron
Part of an atom that has no charge/is neutral.
Octet rule
The desire to have a full energy level, usually 2 or 8.
Proton
Part of an atom that has a positive charge.
