1. Empasizes traditonal view points and law + order

2. Supports religion, family values, + national pride

3. Prefers slow change, not rapid reform

Conservatism Gov Role

-limited role in economy

-Strong role in law + order

-Protects traditional institutions

Modern Liberalism Basics

1.Keep focus on rights but supports more government help

2.Believes government should ensure fairness and opportunity

3.Supports programs like social security, public schools

Modern Liberalism Gov Role

-Reaction to industrial poverty + inequality

-Still values freedom- but includes economic safety nets

Libertarianism Basics

1. Maximize personal and economic freedom

2. Minimal government in both life and business

3. Anti-war, anti- surveillance, anti-tax

Legalize marjuana + other drugs, no gov surveillance, end military drafts + wars, oppose gov regulation or speech or religion.

Socialism Basics

1. Belief in economic equality

2. Government ownership of major industries

3. Tries to reduce gap b/w rich + poor (to reduce inequality)

-Provides healthcare, education, and welfare

-Regulates businesses and protects workers

-Wealth redistributed through taxes

Communism Basics

1. Goal: Classess, stateless society

2. Workers (proletariat) control everything

3. No private property at all

-Total control of economy + property

-All wealth shared

-In theory: no need for government long-term

-Often led to dictatorship

Anarchism Basics

1. Belief: all government= oppression

2. People should rule themselves without a state

3. Focus on freedom at every level

-No Government: it shouldn’t exsist

-No police, military, or taxes

-Organized society through voluntary groups

-Goal is not chaos but radical freedom

Fascism Basics

1. Ultra-nationalist and authoritarian

2. Dictator controls everything

3. Strong military, censorship, propaganda

-Total control: economy, media, education

-Suppresses opposition

-Focus on purity, loyalty, tradition, nation

Dem: stronger federal gov, Rep = weaker federal gov

Taxes Dem vs. Rep

Dem= taxes for social programs (equality), Rep= lower taxes

Business Dem vs. Rep

Dem= More regulation in business, Rep= Free market (less regulation)
