Apply a Knee-High Anti-Embolic (Elastic) Stocking to One Leg

1. Leave resident with a stocking that is smooth/wrinkle-free

Assist Resident to Ambulate Using a Gait Belt

1. Lock bed brakes to ensure resident safety BEFORE assisting resident to stand

2. Lock wheelchair brakes to ensure residents safety

Assist Resident with the Use of a Bedpan, Measure, and Record Urine Output With Hand Washing

1. The candidates recorded measurement is within 25 mLs of the RN Test Observers reading

2. Scrub/wash hands together for at least 20 seconds with soap

3. Do not re-contaminate hands at any time during the handwashing procedure

Catheter Care for a Female Resident with Hand Washing

1. Hold the catheter at the meatus, and do not allow it to be pulled or tugged at any time

2. While washing and rinsing, use a clean portion of the washcloth for each stroke

3. Scrub/wash hands together for at least 20 seconds with soap

4. Do not re-contaminate hands at any time during the handwashing procedure

Denture Care - Cleaning Upper or Lower Denture

No criticals!

Donning PPE (Gown and Gloves), Emptying a Urinary Drainage Bag, Measure and Record Urine Output and Remove PPE with Hand Washing

1. The candidate's recorded measurement is within 25 mLs of the RN Test Observers measurement

2. Remove gloves BEFORE removing the gown with one gloved hand and grasping the other glove in the palm to remove

3. Slip fingers from the ungloved hand underneath the cuff of the remaining glove at the wrist and remove the glove, turning inside out as it is removed.

4. Scrub/wash hands together for at least 20 seconds with soap

5. Do not re-contaminate hands at any time during the handwashing procedure

Dressing a Resident with an Affected (Weak) Side

1. When dressing the resident in a button-up shirt, always dress from the affected (weak) side FIRST

Feeding a Dependent Resident

1. Position the resident in an upright, sitting position BEFORE feeding. At least 75-90 degrees.

2. The candidate's calculation must be within 25% of the RN Test Observers.

3. The candidate's calculation must be within 60 mLs of the RN Test Observers

1. When washing the eyes (WITHOUT SOAP), wipe from inner aspect to outer aspect of each eye

2. Use a clean portion of the washcloth for each stroke of the eyes

Perineal Care for a Female Resident with Hand Washing

1. Wash genital area from front to back

2. Use a clean portion of the washcloth for each stroke when washing

3. Use a clean portion of the washcloth for each stroke when rinsing

4. Wash the rectal area from front to back using a clean portion of the washcloth for each stroke

5. Scrub/wash hands together for at least 20 seconds with soap

6. Do not re-contaminate hands at any time during the handwashing procedure
