What is the order of operations?
The correct order to solve math expressions: Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication and Division (left to right), Addition and Subtraction (left to right).
What does PEMDAS stand for?
Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction.
What should you solve first in an expression?
Parentheses.
What comes after parentheses?
Exponents.
When multiplication and division are together, which comes first?
Solve from left to right.
When addition and subtraction are together, which comes first?
Solve from left to right.

What is an integer?
A whole number and its opposite, including zero.
What are positive integers?
Numbers greater than 0.
What are negative integers?
Numbers less than 0.
Is zero positive or negative?
Neither.
Name five positive integers.
1,2,3,4,5
Name five negative integers.
−1,−2,−3,−4,−5
What is the opposite of 9?
−9
What is the opposite of −15?
15
What is the opposite of 0?
0
What is an opposite?
A number the same distance from zero but on the opposite side of the number line.
On a number line, which direction do numbers increase?
To the right.
On a number line, which direction do numbers decrease?
To the left.
Which is greater: −3 or −7?
−3
Which is greater: 8 or −8?

Give a real-life example of a positive integer.
A temperature of +15∘, earning $20, or climbing 30 feet above sea level.
Give a real-life example of a negative integer.
A temperature of −8∘, owing $15, or diving 10 feet below sea level.
What is an exponent?
A number that tells how many times a base is multiplied by itself.
What is a base?
The number being multiplied in an exponent.
What is an expression?
A mathematical phrase with numbers and operations but no equals sign.
What is the biggest mistake students make with PEMDAS?
Adding before multiplying.
True or False: Multiplication always comes before division.
False. Solve from left to right.
True or False: Addition always comes before subtraction.
False. Solve from left to right.
Evaluate: (8−3)×(4+2)
30
Why is the order of operations important?
It ensures everyone solves expressions the same way and gets the same correct answer.
