Amino Group
A functional group that acts as a base and tends to attract a proton in solution.
Amines
The family of organic molecules characterized by the presence of an amino functional group.
Glycine
An amino acid that serves as an example of a molecule containing an amino group.
Carboxyl Group
A functional group that acts as an acid and tends to lose a proton in solution.
Carboxylic Acids
The family of organic molecules that contain a carboxyl functional group.
Acetic Acid
An example of a molecule belonging to the carboxylic acids family.
Carbonyl Group
A functional group found in aldehydes and ketones, where aldehydes especially react with certain compounds to produce larger molecules.
Aldehydes
A family of molecules containing a carbonyl group, which react with certain compounds to form larger molecules.
Ketones
A family of molecules characterized by containing a carbonyl group.
Acetaldehyde
An example of an aldehyde containing a carbonyl functional group.
Acetone
An example of a ketone containing a carbonyl functional group.
