Deductive Reasoning

A method that uses logical steps based on given facts to reach a conclusion and can be applied through laws of logic.

Law of Detachment

A law of logic stating that if $p \rightarrow q$ and $p$ are true, then $q$ is true.

Law of Syllogism

A law of logic stating that if $p \rightarrow q$ and $q \rightarrow r$ are true, then $p \rightarrow r$ is true.

Proof

A logical argument that uses deductive reasoning to explain why a conjecture is true.

Theorem

A conjecture that has been proven.

Indirect Proof

A method of proof where you assume the negation of what is to be proven, and then show that the assumption leads to a contradiction.

Congruent Supplements Theorem

A theorem used to conclude that two angles are congruent when they are both supplementary to the same angle.
