Ventilation
Removal of CO2 from the body.
Oxygenation
Addition of O2 to the blood.
SpO2
Peripheral capillary oxygen saturation, a measure of oxygen supply in the blood.
Arterial blood gas (ABG)
A test that measures the levels of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood.
Hypoxemia
Low levels of oxygen in the blood.
Alveolar ventilation
The amount of fresh air that reaches the alveoli per minute.
Tidal volume
The amount of air inhaled or exhaled in a normal breath.
Dead space
The portion of the respiratory system that does not participate in gas exchange.
PaCO2
Partial pressure of carbon dioxide in arterial blood.
PAO2
Alveolar partial pressure of oxygen.
Capnography
A monitoring tool that measures the concentration of CO2 in exhaled air.
Circulation
The movement of blood throughout the body, crucial for gas exchange.
FIO2
Fraction of inspired oxygen, the percentage of oxygen in the air we breathe.
CO2 elimination
The process of removing carbon dioxide from the body, primarily through ventilation.
Hemoglobin concentration
The amount of hemoglobin in the blood, affecting its oxygen-carrying capacity.
