recruitment

occurs when an employer r ends an employees contract of employment for a reason that is not covered by that contract
legal minimum wage
is the minimum wage rate per hour that employers must pay the employees
induction training
is an introduction training given to a new trainee, explaining the business’s activites,procedures and introducing them to fellow employees.
on-the-job training
occurs when a trainee observes and practises with an experienced employee at the workplace.
off-the-job training
involves being trained away from the workplace, usually by specialist trainers.

is the way in which authority, control, and instructions are passed down from senior management to lower levels.

is the number of subordinates working directly under a manager.
Organisational structure
refers to the levels of management and division of responsiblities withinin a organisation.
flexible working
allows employees to choose when to start and stop work and where to work, as long as the contrated hours are completed.
home working
means that employee are given the option to work from home rather than at the place of employment.
part-time employees
is someone who works fewer hours than a full time employee. this is often less than 35 hours a week.
full-time employees
will usually work 35 hours a week.
Delegation
means giving a subordinate the authority to perform particular tasks.
Autocratic Leadership
are the different approaches to dealing with people and making decisions when in a position of authority - autocratic, democratic or laissez-faire
Democratic Leadership
involves employees in the decision-making process but the final decision is left to the leader.
laissez faire leadership
makes the broad objectives of the business known to employee but then they are left to make their own decisions and organise their own work.
redudancy
is when an employee loses their job because the business closes down or the work done by the employee is no longer needed.
redundancy payments
sre made to employees by the business when they are made redundant.
trade union
is a group of employees who have joined together to ensure their interests are protected.
Internal communication
is between members of the same organisation.
External communication
is between the organisation and other organisations or individuals.
motivation
is the reason why employees want to work hard and work effectively for the business.
Wage
is payment for work, usually paid weekly.
time based rate
is the amount paid to an employee for one hour of week.
piece-rate
is an employee payment method that is paid for each unit of output produced.
Salary
is payment for work, usually paid monthly, and is not usually for a specific number of hours worked.
Commisson
is a payment linked to the number of sales made, often in addition to a basic wage
profit sharing
is when a proportion of business profits is paid out to employees.

are a form of financial motivation given in addition to an employees regular form of payments.
Job Satisfaction
is the enjoyment derived from feeling that you have done a good job.
Job enrichment
involves giving employees work taks that requires more skill and responsibilty
Job rotation
involves workers swapping jobs and doing each specific task for only a limited time and then changing jobs again.

is the process of improving an employees skills

is the advancement of an employee in an organisation, for example, to a higher job/management level.
