Food and drink are never allowed in the Labratory

Closed container may be placed in your bag before entering the lab, placed in cubbies and not removed until exit.

You may never be in a lab unattended

without an instructor or a monitor trained in safety

Keeps hands and objects

away from face mouth, eyes and body while using chemicals and specimens. Do not apply cosmetics (lip balm etc.) or contacts.

Personal equipment should be placed in backpack and cubbied.

If items are needed at benchtop, such as phones, these should be placed in protective bags upon entering the lab

Wear protective clothing

No open toed shoes, use provided goggles, gloves and aprons.

Know the location, proper operation and use of the safety equipment

Safety shower, eyewash station, fire extinguisher, gas cut off valve, fire blanket, spill kits, first aid kits, sharps/ broken glass containers, proper waste containers, gloves, goggles, aprons and MSDS SDS books, incident form.

All chemicals and equipment in the lab are a potential hazard

Prepare yourself carefully before class by knowing what equipment, materials, chemicals and basic principle are involved.

Visually inspect all the equipment and glassware before each use.

Report broken glassware and equipment to your instructor. Never use equipment with broken or exposed wires or loose connections.

Rule number 9.

Obey all instructions concerning the safe performance of experiments

Rule number 10.

Wipe down your work space before and after use as directed by your instructor. Keep extraneous materials such as backpacks and purses off bench tops- place in cubbies if available.

Rule number 11

Always label glassware and containers as to the contents of the container using the TCC policy identifying contents, name, date and cautions.

Rule number 12.

Use extreme caution when using a gas burner and other heaters - turn off when not in use. Never leave unattended. Tie back loose clothing and hair- watch dangling clothing and jewelry. DO not put anything into flame unless instructed.

Rule number 13

Report any and all accidents, incidents or injuries ( no matter how small) to your instructor immediately. Instructors should notify security and lab manager immediately using phone at MPS station.

Rule number 14

If chemical should splash on skin or in eyes- notify instructor- flush with water for 15 minutes at wash station.

Rule number 15

Dispose of all hazardous materials as instructed. Never put chemicals down the sink.

Rule number 16.

You are expected to leave work areas clean, returning items, models, chemicals, equipment and supplies, to proper places or original area for use by subsequent labs. Please remove all temporary labeling from floors, desks, and cabinetry or as you wash glassware.

Rule number 17.

Clean spills as directed by your instructor immediately

Never return unused chemicals to their original container

DO not enter the stockroom for any reason

Rule number 21.

Children and guest are not allowed in the lab, prep area or stock room at any time.
